Boise's housing stock is why this trade keeps us busy. The Bench is full of 1950s–70s ranches with original tile and cast iron tubs. The North End has beautiful 1920s craftsman homes with bathrooms the size of a closet and galvanized lines behind the walls. West and Southeast Boise are hitting the age where builder-grade acrylic gives up. We've worked in all of it, and each one gets opened up differently.
Two things we won't do. We won't glue a liner over a wall we haven't seen the back of — if there's rot in there, covering it up just sells the problem to the next owner. And we won't quote your bathroom sight unseen. Anyone who gives you a firm number over the phone is guessing, and you'll meet the real number later.

Why tile, why not liners
A shower fails from behind. Cement backer board, waterproofing membrane, pre-slope under the pan — get those right and the tile on top lasts thirty years. Get them wrong and it doesn't matter how pretty the tile is. We set our own tile, and we're fussy about the flat stuff nobody photographs.
No mystery, no salesman
We'll ask about the house — the year it was built tells us more than the tile color does — and if it sounds like a fit, we set a time to stand in the room. That visit takes under an hour. We measure, poke at the things that worry us, and listen to how you actually use the bathroom, because a couple showering at 6 a.m. on a work schedule needs different decisions than a guest bath that sees action twice a month.
Inside a week: scope, allowances, the waterproofing system named, the permit plan, and a contingency line for what demo might find in a house your house's age. No "starting at" asterisks. If we go ahead, you get a start date and a payment schedule — we never ask for the whole job up front, and you shouldn't pay anyone who does.
Demo, rough-in, inspection, backer and membrane, tile, glass, fixtures, paint — then a final walkthrough where you run the shower and flush the toilet before we call it done. You'll know the showerless days before we start. Most of our jobs finish on the day we said they would, and when one doesn't, you hear about it the morning it slips — not from an empty driveway.
Straight answers
A wet-area remodel (tub or shower only) runs 5 to 8 working days. A full hall bath is 2 to 3 weeks. A primary bath with layout changes is 3 to 5 weeks. Add a few days up front for the City of Boise permit if fixtures are moving — we pull it, you don't wait in line.
Usually yes, if you spend sensibly. In this market a dated pink-tile bath scares buyers off harder than almost anything else in the house. You won't get every dollar back at resale — nobody honest will tell you that you will — but a well-judged hall bath refresh routinely moves a Bench or West Boise house out of "needs work" pricing.
If plumbing fixtures are replaced with concealed plumbing work, or wiring is added, the City of Boise requires plumbing and electrical permits with rough-in inspections. Cosmetic swaps usually don't need one. We pull the permits on every job that needs them and we schedule the inspections. If a bid you're holding doesn't mention permits, ask why.
Our water runs 6 to 15 grains per gallon — hard enough to scale up glass, chrome and tile grout in a couple of years if you pick the wrong finishes. We spec scale-resistant glass coating, matte fixtures and larger-format tile with tighter grout lines because of it. That's a Boise decision, not a catalog decision.
Different job, honestly. The franchises install an acrylic system over your existing walls in a day or two, and for a rental or a quick pre-sale spruce-up that can be the right call. We gut to the studs, fix what's hiding, waterproof properly and set tile. It takes longer and costs more, and it's the version you do once instead of twice. If your situation genuinely calls for the quick version, we'll say so at the walkthrough — we'd rather point you the right direction than win the wrong job.
